The long list of satisfied TSI customers continues to grow

A leading auto waterpump manufacturer is the latest in a long list of TSI customers using our specialty bearings successfully in their products over the past several years. Unique patented specialty bearing designs and self-contained lubricant-film replenishing systems were first developed at TSI for solid-lubricated hybrid-ceramic bearings in advanced gas-turbine engines, where dozens of conventional dry- bearing designs had been tried without success, with the cage obviously being the component that suffered the most damage at very high speeds with dry solid lubricants.

The key to TSI's success in specialty bearing applications is the unique patented geometrical design of the AEROFLOAT cage. This cage interferes with the motion of the balls or rollers in a bearing as little as possible.

The geometry of the guide land surfaces in TSI's AEROFLOAT cage is optimized for the generation of hydrodynamic lubricant films there that reduce the friction to very low levels. Also, by increasing the pocket clearances in the orbiting direction enough, almost all element contact with the pocket surfaces is avoided, and the cage pocket contact forces are reduced by an order of magnitude lower than standard design cages.

The result of the above improved cage design is that the lubricant films at the load-carrying contacts in the bearing are subjected to much less severe micro-skidding, which is known from many research studies to be the primary source of lubricant degradation and the main cause of lubrication failure and reduced bearing life.
